COURSE CORRECTIONS ON THE ROAD TO DESTINY

Sounding the Call

When God directed Moses to construct the Tabernacle in the wilderness, the “church’s” very first building program was inaugurated. Prayer “bathed” the entire operation, and the work was performed by skilled craftsmen who were both experienced and anointed to do their specific tasks. But the project was “financed” by the freewill contributions of God’s people. The Israelites brought their gold, their silver, their precious fabrics, and their expensive oils and fragrances. Since that time, God has always “financed” the construction of His house with the freewill offerings of His people.

If the house of God does not cost the people of God something, then it can never be a house where God dwells. Therefore, following the example of Moses, you and your congregation have determined to build a new facility that will enhance your church’s ability to fulfill its mission in the world. And following their further example, you have determined to “finance” that construction with the freewill offerings of God’s people who attend your church.

Sounding the Call is a proven method for involving each and every member of the church in the growth and expansion program of the church. But you must make sure that the right people are serving in the right places. You must make sure that attitudes are right, that the work progresses smoothly, that personal preferences not be allowed to get in the way of the bigger picture, and that a spirit of cooperation prevails. The outline is here, but only your prayers and guidance can make this mechanism work.

The senior pastor is the key to any successful operation within the local church. He will either give life to the project or doom it to failure. The pastor’s attitude toward the endeavor will become the prevailing attitude among the church’s leaders and members. His work ethic will become theirs. His commitment will be emulated by them. In the master notebook and the six committee manuals, you will find a detailed outline for achieving the goals of this capital funds campaign in a timely and synchronized manner, but the success of this campaign lies, not in this outline, but in your diligence and leadership. Before you start, you must read through the document to familiarize yourself with those tasks that your church will be completing in the 28- week program. Then carefully select the key people who will work with you to drive the point of the spear in this endeavor.
